"Introduction to Polo" Clinics
Saturday Aug 27, Sunday Aug 28, and Monday Aug 29,
2005
We’re glad to welcome Wilbur O’Ferrall, a Field Director for
the Polo Training Foundation, back to Central Ohio. For those of you who haven’t met Wilbur yet,
he spends a lot of his time traveling around the country introducing groups of
people to the sport of polo.
Wilbur will be conducting several clinics while he’s here,
and we’re in the process of finalizing details with the host organizations. If
you would like more information than is posted here, please contact the clinic
organizers directly.
General Clinic Format:
-Participants start on the ground with a foot mallet. Learn
how to hold the mallet properly and the 4 main strokes. Discuss basic rules and strategy of play.
-Participants get on a horse and practice hitting the ball.
-Play some polo at the walk/trot to get a feel for the game.
Who May Participate:
This varies depending upon who is hosting each clinic (and
what the individual organization’s insurance allows). Regardless, anyone with an interest in polo
is invited to attend as a spectator.
Please note:
Many players are willing to help anyone who is seriously interested in
learning polo. If you’re unable to
participate in one of these clinics, please come to games and practices anyway,
meet the players, and get involved. Many
current players got their start trading grooming for polo lessons.
