Columbus Polo always
welcomes new player and non-playing associate
members.
In general:
-Columbus Polo members’ annual dues cover the cost of field rental, field mowing, club insurance, umpires, and other joint expenses. Various membership types are available, including full player member, first-year player member, and non-playing associate member. Please contact a club officer to discuss what is best for you.
-As required by our club insurance, all people riding horses at Columbus Polo events must be members of the USPA. USPA membership is also required to receive a handicap, which is necessary to play in tournaments. Reduced cost student and first-year player memberships are available from the USPA.
-Players provide their own horses and equipment. Established members may, on an individual basis, be willing to help you give polo a try if you don’t yet have your own trained horses. Many new players also get a start in polo by working as a polo groom for a season.
-Tailgating
is a polo tradition. If you
prefer to participate from
the
sidelines, pack up your cooler and join us! Associate members are
invited to
all club functions and parties.
Practices:
During the 2005
season, the weekly schedule of play will usually
follow this
format (weather permitting):
-Tuesday evenings, Bryn Du field. Informal hitting, riding, strategy, horse training, etc. Open to all members, especially new players. Contact Sheila Everett for more information.
-Thursday evenings, Ackley field in Gahanna. Intra-club practice scrimmage. Open to full player members.
-Sunday afternoon, Bryn Du field. Weekly game. Early chukkas open only to full player members. The last chukka(s) will be set aside specifically for new players or anyone wishing to play a slow chukka.
